Golf Cart Rental Guide for the Dominican Republic

Golf Carts are one of the most popular modes of transport in the Dominican Republic in resorts like Casa de Campo, Cap Cana, Punta Cana and Vista Cana. 

To help people with choosing the best golf cart rental option for them we have made this guide with practical tips and things to look out for. There are a lot of golf cart rental companies out there, but not all provide a high quality service. 

Tip #1: Check online reviews

One of the best ways to narrow done the best rental options is to do a review check. You will be surprised how many rental companies don’t have hardly any reviews or bad reviews.

Tip #2: Check the quality of golf carts

There is a huge difference in age and quality of golf carts between golf cart rental companies. This difference does not always translate to different prices like it should. Some golf cart rental companies rent golf carts that are 2 to 8 years older, 30% slower and have almost 50% less range for the same price as golf carts that are almost new and have the best specifications.

Tip #3: Check for discounts

Not all rental companies provide discounts, even if the golf carts that they rent are very old, smelly, slow and unreliable. 

During booking on our Eco Planeta website, discounts are automatically calculated based on the number of day rented. More days, means more discounts. From time to time also have discount codes that provide additional discounts. Tip #4: Book early

We always recommended to book as early as possible to prevent not having golf carts during your vacation. Especially when you book for peak season: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter. Weekends can also be busy, especially if there are big events like music concerts or golf tournaments. 

Tip #5: Check if Golf Cart Rental Company is insured

By law companies in the hospitality sector have to have third-party liability insurence valued at a minimum of 250000 USD.  Some Golf Cart Rental Companies are not insured. That means if employees or golf carts cause damages to you, chances are small that you can be compensated.

Tip #6: Check if your Golf Cart Rental Company accepts Credit Cards

Not all rental companies accept credit cards (or wire transfers) and only accept cash payments. This means that you don’t benefit of the perks that your credit cards offer, like rewards, travel insurance and purchase protection. If you get in a dispute with you golf cart company you can dispute the charge with the credit company to get your money back, which is much more diffucult to do if you just paid cash. 

Disputes are also much easier to solve when you have an official registered invoice. Something you don’t always receive when you pay in cash.

Tip #7: Check cancellation policy

Some rental companies provide very strict cancelation policies (no return of payment) or have very unclear cancellation policies that can lead to unwanted surprises. 

Eco Planeta has a clear cancellation policy that lets you in almost all cases cancel your reservation for free (minus banking costs), as long you cancel 48 hours before the start of your rental. If you cancel after that you have to pay one night for each night. There is however one exception: If you have a rental in the period starting from the 20th of December 2025 until the 4th of January 2026 there is no refund of your 50% advance payment if you cancel after the 1st of December 2025. Check your rental agreement for the most recent cancellation policy. 

Tip #8: Check damage policy

Not all rental companies have a clear damage policy and protocol that can lead to charges for damages you didn’t cause.

Eco Planeta always makes pictures of the golf cart when we deliver the golf cart and again when we pickup the golf carts. In the unfortunate case that a damage is incurred, we will always send you before and after photos and a invoice that specifies cost of labour and parts so you can be sure we don’t charge for damages that were already there. 

Tip #9: Check support staff

Some rental companies don’t have technicians on the payroll, but work with independend technicians with low quality skills, take a long time to arrive and have no or limited parts inventory. This means support is very inconsistent and which can be very frustating. 

Eco Planeta only works with experienced inhouse technicians that have access to our parts warehouse that contains more than 3000 unique parts. So in the unfortunate situation you need technical assistance, your issue will be addressed quickly and if needed we will swap the vehicle. Our support staff uses state of the communications tools that tracks issues that come in via phone calls, whatsapp or email until they are solved.
