Golf Cart Rules in Cap Cana (2026)
We have rented and sold golf carts in Cap Cana since 2011, because golf carts are the easiest way to get around Cap Cana. They are quiet, easy to park and perfect for a trip to the beach club, the marina or a restaurant. Because so many owners, guests and renters use them, Cap Cana has clear rules for driving a golf cart.
The Cap Cana Property Owners Association (APROCAP) publishes these as its official community rules for golf carts, and they apply to everyone who drives one in Cap Cana. Always contact APROCAP for the latest rules.
The 7 golf cart rules in Cap Cana
1. The driver must have a valid driver's license
Only drivers with a valid driver's license may drive a golf cart in Cap Cana. APROCAP's notice shows a 16+ age icon next to this rule. To rent a golf cart in Cap Cana from Eco Planeta, you need to be at least 18.
2. The speed limit on the cart path is 25 km/h
The maximum speed on the cart path is 25 km/h (about 15 mph). Most modern electric golf carts can go faster, often 38 to 40 km/h, so keep an eye on your speed.
On our Denago golf carts you have a round gear selector. If you leave this gear selector in D (and not S), the golf cart will not pass 25 km/h.

The maximum driving speed of the project Fishing Lodge in Cap Cana is 10 km/h. The roads inside the project are tight and there are garages that have exits with low visibility.
Please note that Cap Cana security has given people in Cap Cana high fines for exceeding the speed limit with golf carts.
3. Golf carts may only drive on the cart path
Golf carts are only allowed on the cart path, not on the roads used by cars. These cart paths link each community/project in Cap Cana to each other and are marked with clear signs. Please keep in mind that you share the cart path with cyclists and pedestrians.
4. Yield to emergency vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians
Emergency vehicles, cyclists and people on foot always go first. Slow down when you pass them.
5. No sharp turns or reckless driving
Avoid sharp turns, risky maneuvers and reckless driving. A golf cart can roll over in a sharp turn, especially at speed or with a full load. Some golf cart paths do have some twisting turns, so always slow down before a turn, especially because of the fact that the golf cart paths are not wide and you can not always look around the corner because of bushes and trees.
6. Park only in designated parking areas
Park your golf cart only in the areas marked for parking. Do not leave it on the cart path or anywhere it blocks traffic. And a tip from us. Especially in areas with apartments, make sure that your golf cart charging cable is not crossing walk ways of other Cap Cana visitors.
7. Areas where golf carts are not allowed
Golf carts are not allowed:
- on the beach
- at Lago Azul
- in construction or development zones
- in the red zone at the Marina
The only exception is when Cap Cana has given proper authorization.
