What a Counterbalanced Forklift Is For
A counterbalanced forklift carries the load out in front of the front axle and offsets it with a counterweight at the rear. Because there are no straddle legs or outriggers under the forks, it can drive straight up to a pallet, a rack or a truck bed and lift it without any repositioning.
That makes it the right machine for loading and unloading trucks and containers, moving pallets between the yard and the warehouse, and any job where the load sits on the floor or on a standard rack. In exchange, it needs a wider aisle than a reach truck and more room to turn than an electric stacker.
Under the OSHA and ITA classification, the electric counterbalanced machines on this page are Class 1 forklifts.

Counterbalanced Forklift FAQ
What is an electric counterbalanced forklift?
It is a forklift that balances the load it carries out front against a counterweight at the rear, pivoting over the front wheels. On electric models the battery forms part of that counterweight. That is why they must never be loaded beyond their rated capacity: the balance depends on that relationship.
What are electric counterbalanced forklifts used for?
They are versatile and easy to operate, with capacities from 1.6 to 8 tonnes. They are used in warehouses, manufacturing plants, resorts, construction sites and supermarkets, both indoors and outdoors.
How much does a counterbalanced forklift weigh?
Service weight runs from about 2,940 kg on the 1,600 kg capacity model up to about 11,900 kg on the 8,000 kg model. Each model's datasheet lists the exact service weight.
What capacity do I need?
Take the heaviest load you handle, add the weight of the pallet or attachment, and add a margin for the load centre. Loads that sit further out from the fork face reduce the rated capacity of the machine. Send us the load and the lift height and we will specify it properly.
How wide does my aisle need to be?
A counterbalanced forklift generally needs a wider working aisle than a reach truck or a stacker, and the exact figure depends on the model and the pallet size. Each model's datasheet lists the right angle stacking aisle. If your aisles are tight, look at a reach truck or an electric stacker instead.
Can an electric forklift work outdoors?
Yes, on hard even surfaces such as concrete and asphalt yards, and our machines are used that way daily in the Dominican Republic. Rough terrain and unpaved ground call for a different machine, such as a telehandler.
How long does the battery last on one charge?
A full charge typically covers a normal shift. Because the batteries are lithium, they can also be topped up during breaks without shortening their life, so two and three shift operations usually run on a single battery rather than a spare pack.
What does maintenance look like?
There is no engine, no oil change and no battery watering. Scheduled service covers brakes, hydraulics, mast, chains and tyres. Our mobile technicians carry this out on your site.
